Life Update: From Caity’s Kitchen to Allergic Mama

When I started this blog (Caity’s Kitchen) in 2016, I was newly married and looking for something fun to do outside of work. My husband Nolan suggested I start a blog since I have always loved to write and bake. My perspective was that of a newly married woman in her early 20’s navigating food allergies with a work and social life.

Fast forward to 2022 and my perspective has drastically changed. I am now a stay-at-home mom to the two sweetest boys – Owen is 3 years old and Benjamin just turned one. While my concerns continue to include food allergies and my everyday life, I have also struggled with my allergies affecting pregnancy, labor and delivery, and now raising my two boys.

Since becoming a mom to two boys, and having blogged for a number of years, I felt excited and ready for an update to the blog. I spent some time thinking about my perspective in the food allergy community, and came up with the name “Allergic Mama.” I am VERY lucky to have a husband that does web design, and am grateful that he was willing to redo the blog for me.

I still love to bake and cook, but my time is SO limited now. While I am putting out snacks all day and my sink is always full of dishes, I am not as easily able to come up with new recipes. I am also now choosing what I cook based on the taste buds of a very picky toddler and a one-year-old. Thankfully just in the last month, I feel that we are moving into a season where I have a little more time to cook and bake for the blog again. I am excited to share my latest recipes with you!

A major update on Owen: we found out through allergy testing that Owen is not allergic to nuts! We are so grateful that he does not have any food allergies. However, I see how my allergies affect him every day (I will have future posts on his testing experience and the challenges he faces with an allergic mama).

We do not know if Ben has any food allergies – so far he has not had any reactions to food, but he has not been introduced to nuts yet. We will likely follow the same protocol with Ben that we did with Owen.

I am still so excited to be sharing new delicious recipes with you and suggesting new safe places to eat, but I am also able to share so much more from the perspective of a mother. This is such a crazy season, and I look forward to sharing what I learn!

Blessings,

Caitlin
